Description
Looking for first grade literacy center activities? Decodable reading passages are a great way to reinforce reading skills for beginning readers. Emergent readers need a lot of practice with decodable stories.
In these lessons, you will focus on one main phonics skill with a decodable story pdf that accompanies the main phonics skill. These first grade literacy center activities will help your students feel confident reading connected text.
These lessons focus on short u word families. They follow my Short A Decodable Reader Bundle and Short I Decodable Readers, Short E Decodable Readers and Short O Decodable Readers. These lessons include some short a, i, e, and o words and sight words. The words are considered sight words if they do not follow a phonics pattern or if the phonics pattern has not yet been taught. For example, ‘big’ would still be considered a sight word if short i words have not yet been taught.
These lesson plans were designed to be used with a small group, or for one-on-one tutoring. They are based on Orton-Gillingham principles; explicit, purposeful, phonics-based, and contain a multisensory aspect.
These first grade literacy center activities can also be used as independent reading practice, partner reading, or homework. I love to send one home each week for my students to practice!
